The courtyard La Merla

The courtyard La Merla, which dates back at least to the first half of the 16th century, initially and until the nineteenth century was called courtyard Zina, because it belonged to Monsignor Zino, near the well of San Salvar.
It is assumed that the current name references to a
pigeon tower; its restoration was made at the end of the last century.
The court is mentioned in an
ancient document, which set out to get water from the well of San Salvar to irrigate the fields of the courtyard. In the document are drawn both the court and the well. On the well you can read: “Dove si vorìa portar l’acqua” (Where it is desirable to carry the water). The document is in the State Archives of Venice, in the section Beni Inculti, i.e., those goods which are not cultivated.
Most notable is the old
tower with a particular cornice placed under the roof and almost forming a frame detached from the cover of the structure, which is also characterized by an artistic chimney.

From Verona and Peschiera del Garda, along the regional road nr. 11, in the hamlet Crocioni, turn towards Sona/Sommacampagna. Go straight on in via Molinara and at the second roundabout turn left towards Lugagnano. The courtyard is located along the street on your left.
